Excellent place to stay on Baikal
We stayed with family including 3 kids in the president suite
for a week.
Hotel is placed in a corner of a village, Baikal and wild forest. The hotel is located in the nature protected area and is a ecologically friendly hide-away from a big city.
Right next to the hotel, we found many wild mushrooms and local herbs. The hotel is 3 walking mins away from the Baikal lake. The water in Baikal is generally cold, but this place offer relatively warm temperature on a sunny day. But do expect not every person can swim in such water. The public beach is sandy that is rather unusual for Baikal shore.
Our house was fully wooden built. The smell of fresh wood the house built from was fabulous. The house provides modern and stylish future. The kitchen is fully equipped. Many visitors grill meat and fish outside bought in local grocery stores. The wood and grill is free of charge.
The president suite has a lot of space, 4 TVs with many TV channels, but most of them in Russian. The receivers had issues with connecting the decoding cards from time to time. A call to reception solved the issue within the minutes. Wifi worked well and allowed to watch videos e.g., on YouTube.
A visit to the Russian Banja (Russia style sauna) is a must. They have a small and big Banjas. This biggest Banja is probably, one of the best in the world. The bath tubs with 20 and 40 degree are great for break from the hot banya. A laying down on hayloft is unique. The tee from local wild herbs and berries after the banya is an experience which is hard to miss.
Staff is young and somewhat inexperienced, but responsive and very friendly. Reception manages to solve most issues very quickly. I would especially note the attitude of Marina, the hotel general manager. She put a piece of her soul in the hotel development and ensuring that guests enjoy time. She was instrumental in stepping up, when staff struggled to deliver at a couple of occasions. I am glad that we had a chance to meet such great personality.Clearly, hotel is on the path on further improvements and becomes even better under her management over time.
Cousin is a mix of traditional Russian and Buryat (local nation). Good quality, but we were not blown away with standard dinner sets. A la carte menu is localized and worth to try. A private romantic dinner on the lake shore is lovely experience that should not be missed.
The hotel offers a number of day trips. The tours are executed by third parties. The tours can be described as the European prices for below average European level of service with a lot of nature experience. In particular, we watched Baikal Seals in the national park, spent some time on thermal springs and enjoyed a short Baikal cruise. A day trip was worth of 100 EUR per person we paid.
It was unusual for us that room cleaning service is on the call rather than on schedule. At the first day we were not satisfied with comprehensiveness of cleaning services, but a quick chat with the general manager dramatically changed the picture and it becomes spotless.
The kid playground is basic and further development is required. The hotel breeds rabbits. Kids liked to watch, but unfortunately they could not pet them.
Evening entertainment is limited, just billiard, TVs, wifi and restaurant. However, we had great time with family and friends making grill parties.
In general, the tourist service in the Baikal area is in development. Hospitality is in very basic forms, but this hotel is clear exception here. The tourist agencies told that this is one of best hotels what you can find on the lake shore. Seeing other places over here, I believe that they give a real picture.
In summary, renting a luxury suite at Baikal Riviera is an excellent option, if you would like to explore the deepest lake in the world and wild nature in relaxing and eco-friendly environment.
